Our courses are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and are designed to accommodate the needs of our learners. General English does not include a significant focus on academic skills. Our IELTS, FCE and CAE exam preparation courses all focus on exam techniques and practice.

Each level has a level descriptor based on the CEFR and a level outline (scheme of work) which details the level aims, including skills, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation activities to be incorporated. This is partly based on the designated course book but will also include additional material. Level outlines are continuously updated and reviewed by the Director of Studies.

The majority of students at the school aim to progress to a qualification and this is taken into consideration when designing courses. Due to the diverse nature of our student intake, teachers are encouraged to use their discretion when adapting level outlines and this is monitored by the Director of Studies. Teachers are provided with a class profile to accompany the level outline, detailing the learning needs of students which are tied into each students’ goals.

Additional courses, such as one-to-ones, are also available. The content of these courses is agreed upon with the student (and any other stake-holders).
